Scottish Power Issue - Do I have a leg to stand on with a compliant?
We moved into our house in December 2021. The last owner had failed to pay their bill, so by the time we got in Scottish Power (SP) had installed a pre-payment meter, as opposed to the traditional meter telling you what the usage is.
Three times I called (Jan, April and May) and requested we moved to a traditional meter and received bills each month or quarter. There was an issue with the signal their end communicating to our smart meter we were told, which means they couldn't see what we were using and couldn't therefore bill us as such. They told us it was not a priority to fix this issue.
Today I've called about something and been told we have £100+ of debt? I asked what with, and apparently back in April this signal issue meant they couldn't change the tariff our pre-payment meter was displaying, so we've been seeing our usage at one rate (the old pre-hike rate) when in fact they've been charging us in the background at a much higher rate we have no visibility to.
Now we have a bill effectively for the difference between the old rate and the new rate. We've been living in a certain way thinking we're paying our bill and doing okay, only to find we are in fact running up a bill we have no visibility to.
