I would pay proportional to the work done and confirm that you need to pay him for the flooring even if it's someone else doing the job.

  • Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback on this, to be honest i am happy with the work done. But i had thought the floor component of the job was a higher proportion of the cost so dont know if its about right for what i had done?

    I Had :

    Old bath removing

New bath installing with new taps and what looked like new waterline hoses lines to them (basic 200 quid bath albeit with a fancy plug)

New copper piping between bath and sink, and matching copper piping to the toilet and waste stack.- about 3 or 4 metres of copper piping in all.

Bottom row of tiles around the bath removed and replaced with matching tiles and regrouted

He has probably been here for about 10 hours all together, he kept waiting for stuff to be cured so it took several days (the bath has been sealed twice, once before tiles went on)

That comes to 725- seem reasonable?
£725 seems a very good price to me.

Thanks, i am aware everything is far more pricey than a few years ago, so my 'spider sense' for a good price is out nowadays :)

I was a bit surprised that he didnt fill the bath to seal it to be honest (he said you only need to do that if you have cut corners and not fit fixing brackets to stop any movement)

But he is the plumber and i am not :)

Thanks again guys, i feel reassured :)

As long as you’re happy with the work carried out so far, and he’s not asking for the flooring .
    payment.
He has paid for all the materially Then as you have done, pay him.
Most tradesman can choose their customers , I do.
A thankyou is payment enough .

To be honest i have had so many dodgy tradesmen in the last 18 months i dont want to upset the decent ones like this guy ::)

I had a builder who bashed a water pipe and dumped his rubble in my bin without telling me (i discovered after he left)

Then- a roofer who added a grand to the bill after he got my roof off

So to have a plumber who seems to have done a good job and not put the price up half way through is a nice relief :)

Still a bit surprised at sealing without filling the bath to be honest, but he is the expert not me.

If it’s been fitted correctly it shouldn’t move
I fitted a bath 2 weeks ago, 2 brackets on the length, 2 brackets on the ends. And 4x1 under the feet to spread the weight.
Silicone it on top and underneath , before tiling, then another seal of silicone after tiling. It an’t gonna move or leak.

I didnt watch his work, but did notice it had battens in place, and yeh that is why it took so long to finish, he siliconed it before tiling, we waited a day then he put the tiles on, we waited another day and then he siliconed and ....told us to wait a day :)
