EDF want to charge me £112543.00 a year for gas and electric on a 3 bed terraced house.

On 7th August 2022 I supplied EDF Energy with the requested meter readings.
On the 8th August 2022 I checked the bill..........................They were going to refund me £112.06 for previous over payment.......then my direct debit was going to go up from £139.00 a month to £9367.00 (£112543.00 a year, £308.00 a day) Contacted EDF and they promised to sort it out but the problem has not been resolved to date.
Should I contact the ombudsman to make them aware of the issue??
AND before anyone asks the question, I am NOT growing things in the loft.

Give them time to sort it, it's probably too early to go to the ombudsman and they're not going to deal with immediately, anyway.
Something's clearly gone wrong with the readings - have you checked you inputted them correctly? That they've used the correct units (if it's an old meter)? That they're using the correct prior readings?0 -
Maybe another one whos put in the wrong reads from a Secure Liberty old smart meter with its 8 digits and an almost invisible decimal point .
Not uncommon now when no humans are involved in working out the bill

The meter readings were given over the phone to an adviser on 07/08/2022 and when the bill was questioned fresh readings given over the phone again on 12/08/2022 with the same result.
EDF state they will now keep my direct debit at £139.00 but I know that will not be enough to cover the latest increase in charges so another nasty shock awaits at a later date.0 -
I'm not sure with EDF, however with previous companies I was able to change my own DD, might be worth you upping it yourself to cover what you think the additional charge would be.0

Can you post a photo here of the meter reading, and tell us what you believe that reading to be showing?rodderslondon said:The meter readings were given over the phone to an adviser on 07/08/2022 and when the bill was questioned fresh readings given over the phone again on 12/08/2022 with the same result.

Using the EDF website (possibly their app too, but I'm not certain) you can request a change to your direct debit; suggesting the figure you want it to be. Because they only bill twice yearly and I didn't want to get too far in arrears and have them put it up to a ludicrous figure, I have twice upped mine. They came back to me quite quickly on both occasions and changed it as I'd requested.rodderslondon said:The meter readings were given over the phone to an adviser on 07/08/2022 and when the bill was questioned fresh readings given over the phone again on 12/08/2022 with the same result.

Check the meter reading over a 24 hour period. If you think it's gone up by something ludicrous (say 100 kWh for electricity, 10 m3 of gas) rather than something sensible (say 10kWh and 1m3) you've missed a decimal point. The clue was that they questioned the readings. Check the previous readings on the bill too, that should give a clue. Not a job for the ombudsman, EDF can only work with the readings they're given.4.7kWp (12 * Hyundai S395VG) facing more or less S + 3.6kW Growatt inverter + 6.5kWh Growatt battery. SE London/Kent. @rodderslondon As others have said this may be a meter read error - some of the modern meters have a decimal point which is easy to miss
012345(dot)678 should be given as 12345. If you hsve given 12345678 then disaster will follow.
What reading have you given?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Can you post your last few meter readings with the dates? Ideally going back to when it was last read by the company, if it ever has been.0
