maternity grant and BR

I am intending to go BR after xmas - december overtime means i will have the fees at last - but i have a question. I know that any "extra" money received during the time you are an undischarged BR is taken for creditors, but i have a baby due in may and as i get maximum level of child tax credits, i get a £500 surestart maternity grant, to buy baby equpment. Can they take this? i'd be relying on it for pram, cot etc!!

I'm not 100% sure on this but imo, the Or will not touch that money, There not quite the evils ogres they're portrayed as and realise you have expenses to meet. The money is need and necessary so you should be fine.
Will let someone else have a say though just to make sure i'm right. The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter

ha ha, in some ways in feels like a good time to have a baby, at least i won't be stuggling to pay credit repayments on my meagre maternity pay!!0

ok but only for you doesn't stop me thinking it though. Anyway you can look on freecycle and at car boot fairs for good quality second hand baby stuff. Babies are only as expensive as you make them.Barclaycard 3800

hmm, thanks, happy xmas to you too. For your information, you judgmental, narrow minded idiot, i have always supported my children with no state benefits other than child benefit and have always worked, and it is only that i have recently become a single parent, against my wishes and through no fault of my own, that i have claimed any state help, and i do not intend to have this help for any longer than absolutely necessary - i am currently using the fact that child care issues mean that i can only work part time, to retrain for a new, higher paid, career, so that when i qualify, in a year and a half, i will be able to work full time and go back to supporting my children on my own. Neither of my other two children has ever been in any trouble of any sort, and i can't see why that would change, even if i was claiming government help for years. Lack of money does not equate to lack of parenting skills. Might i suggest you stop reading the daily mail, broaden ypour horizons, rethink your opinions, and keep your thoughts to yourself until you have done so.0

What are you on?
(susiehasdebts...good luck with the baby and everything, I was advised to go BR when I was pregnant, but struggled on and ended up going BR 2 years later. It was the right decision for me and my family. Don't let others silly misinformed comments put you off. BrokenHearted just likes to wind people up)0 -

Still need to buy new car seat, cot mattress etc. Dangerous to buy those second hand.
But it is fairly easy to get the rest cheap. I've hung on to my pram/moses basket etc so that I can use it for another one or I can give them to my sisters when they have kids.
Didn't have to buy many clothes for the first year of DDs life either - had so many as presents and had loads of hand me downs too that had hardly been worn (they grow so quickly!).All comments made and advice given are my own opinions and do not represent the views or advice of any debt advice organisation.
Current balance: approx £17500 including Tax Credit Overpayment
Estimated DFD: never - deficit budget. Cheers HMRC!
Another year over and we're still together. It's not always easy, but I'm here forever0
