No. It's not the apocalypse and trying to panic people into hoarding won't help.14

Is that what I'm doing? Don't think so. What I'm talking about is building resilience into winter budgets that are going to be stretched. Where is the difference between this and thinking about other significant rising costs and trying to mitigate them?[Deleted User] said:No. It's not the apocalypse and trying to panic people into hoarding won't help.2 -
No, that's obviously not what you are doing. What you are suggesting makes sense. It makes sense to have some basic supplies in. If budget might be an issue it makes sense to use some disposable income (that might be gone come October) to just give an extra food resilience if things get stretched financially. It makes sense to buy extra storable items when they are on offer. It probably makes sense to buy most long term storage items now as the chances seem high prices will rise for the next 6 months rather than fall.Trynsave2 said:

It makes sense to fill your cupboards, with 13.4% RPI inflation.
I have stocked up on tuna, beans and toilet rolls. It beats my money being kept in the bank.3 -
I have googled low cost meals and I don't necessarily mean ingredients. I'm considering which meals can be cooked quick with less energy and have started to overbuy tins by a few a week. Not to stockpile as such but just to be prepared and to cope. Not done loo rolls though but maybe I should. Paper has gone up loads!Trynsave2 said:With the price of energy set to increase production costs, just wondering if anyone has started to stockpile non-perishable food, cleaning products and dare I say it, loo rolls?Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213
Mortgage Jan 18- 77224 Jan 26- just under 64k

Eat more fibre, you'll use fewer toilet rolls.NeverendingDMP said:

Trynsave2 said: and dare I say it, loo rolls?Having had at one point, three female botties in the house during the pandemic, we were getting through a roll per day. Months before then, I was buying jumbo packs, and at one point, had ~150 rolls in the cupboard. Then the great loo roll shortage hit.For various reasons, usage is way down, but I still aim to keep 75-100 rolls in stock so that I don't find myself short - Is that hoarding, or just prudent shopping....Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

As long as you aren't wrestling a little old granny for a pack of loo rolls in the local Waitrose like people were during the pandemic I think you are fineFreeBear said:Trynsave2 said: and dare I say it, loo rolls?Having had at one point, three female botties in the house during the pandemic, we were getting through a roll per day. One local discount store had a pallet of 9-pack rolls (cheap stuff). On either side, a burly security guard enforcing a one pack per customer rule. I'm sure they would have intervened if a punch up started.... And yes, I did nab a pack, even although I had more than enough at home.sienew said:
