Raising meter reading dispute with Orbit energy
Hi,
I am having a problem with raising a meter reading dispute with the ceased energy company - Orbit energy.
I joined Orbit in May 2021, and at that time, I provided an actual meter reading (this is correct). However, my previous provider was Bulb and unfortunately they have used an estimated meter reading when closing my account.
I did not realise it at that time until after Orbit Energy ceased trading in December 2021. I have tried to contact Scottish Power (who take over Orbit) but they said they are not authorised to raise meter reading dispute for the closing meter reading in May 2021 with Bulb, as they only took over in Dec 2021.
Can I check who should I speak to to raise a meter reading dispute for the closing meter reading with Bulb?
Many thanks.

You don’t need to raise a dispute if it’s over a year ago, the energy company can just change it. Bulb may or may not change their final reading but you have no chance of getting your opening reading from Orbit changed if they don’t exist anymore. It’s nothing to do with the SoLR, they only took over once Orbit went bust. What is the difference & his has it had an impact on your final bill with Orbit?0

The main question was already asked. Did both suppliers use the same reading?
You are aware that the meter readings used can differ by 250KWh for electricity and 1200KWh for gas without you having any possibility to complain?

Not quite right. When a supply transfers both suppliers are required to use the same industry-validated meter reading/s to open and close accounts.pochase said:The main question was already asked. Did both suppliers use the same reading?

Suppliers using different readings to open and close accounts is a matter for the new supplier to take up with the losing supplier. It should not lead to an Agreed Readings Dispute.0 -
Yes correct. Orbit has used the correct reading but Bulb has used the wrong (estimated) reading, so they are not the same.MWT said:amsjrt said:I joined Orbit in May 2021, and at that time, I provided an actual meter reading (this is correct). Due to the wrong meter reading with Bulb, it is charging me like £400+ for a period of 1.5 months for gas usage during May period (which is low usage for heating), hence I want to raise a dispute meter reading.Mobtr said:You don’t need to raise a dispute if it’s over a year ago, the energy company can just change it. I am not sure what is the difference in terms of KWh, but the difference is meter reading is £400+ for a period of 1.5 month.pochase said:The main question was already asked. Did both suppliers use the same reading?

Does this mean I cannot complain about this?0 -
Thanks. Sounds like the next step is to talk to Bulb and see if they can raise a dispute, as Orbit has ceased trading so no longer exist (and Scottish Power does not seem to able to help on behalf of Orbit).[Deleted User] said:
