I'm an 80% user on Eco7 with Octopus. I've been with them for a year & not had a bill because my meter readings keep getting confused between the day/ night & despite me doing space tests I still don't have a bill! Luckily, I've kept the meter readings & the other day I worked out that I've very slightly overpaid so when the bill does eventually land I'll be OK! I don't like to think this is a standard problem but you never know!
Pessimist by nature that's the kind of issue that concerns me!

Is there any indication on either the meter or IHD when the rate changes?
The older meters had indicators or LED to show when it was normal or low rate.

I assume it's using the smart meter internal clock / radio synched time from the smart meter network to change at specific times, but if it is anything like the old teleswitch system, the suppliers can fiddle the times a little.

Is the E7 timing constant with a SMETS meter Vs the old teleswitch versions?

I have a 5 port smart meter on E7 with EDF. You just have to confirm with the installer before he starts that he understands you are on economy 7 and if he messes up that you'll have no heating.

Yes, there's an icon on the screen and/or a notation next to the active register.

I've had two E7 smart meters installed by EDF in two properties (both are Aclara SGM1416-B 5-port meters).  The latest installation was a replacement to solve some timing issues I had since transferring from Scottish Power.

I don't think you have much to worry about, just check your switching times in the mornings after the meter is installed.

If you have a choice, I would recommend the
Aclara SGM1416-B 5-port meter as it is one of the latest models and it doesn't adjust timing for BST - which means you get cheap electric for an hour later in the morning during the summertime.  :)

Also, ask the fitter to install an isolator.  This will make any future upgrades on your consumer unit much easier. (This can be a either a 4-pole isolator or a 2-pole isolator on the peak supply tails only).

    Good luck, Scrounger
