Nest Thermostat Battery Power?

Sorry all to create a thread for this but just cannot find the answer.

My friend has a Hive where the thermostat is battery powered with AA batteries allowing him to stick it wherever he wants

I prefer the look of the Nest system and being able to just 'turn the dial'. However, I cannot find any info on whether it can be just charged and attached to the wall.

We currently have no thermostat and the boiler just uses an analogue timer so no wires anywhere for a thermostat.

Does anybody know if the Nest thermostat can just be battery powered allowing me to put it anywhere? I'd like it in the hall and to be the area where the thermostat is based from and there are no sockets there.

Also open to pros and cons of Nest or Hive as a side point.

Not sure about Nest Learning Thermostat/E but:
Tado with wireless can do this.
    Netatmo can do this.
    Wiser can do this.

    What boiler do you have?

There is a NEST E thermostat which has a battery but it won't help your case
The NEST E consists of 2 parts - a grey circular part which replaces and connects to the existing stat wiring - its this part which is battery powered
The other is a free standing item which has the circular temp adjust dial and contains the temperature sensor
    BUT
That part needs a power connection to basically a USB power brick

Probably better off with any of the standard programmable Wireless Thermostats - most /all of the sensor stations are battery powered
The receiver part needs need to connect in place of the exist stat if you had one ( or be wired into the boiler) and to mains power

Would give you better control of temp too, can usually have day split into 4 sections and a different temp for each section

I've never understood why people put thermostats in the hall - you don't live in the hall.

    It’ll be a Worcester Greenstar 4000 30kW

    Agreed.
Thats why I chose the NEST  E. it gave me an easy way of moving the stat from the hall ( where the house builders always put them , to the living room

for maximum efficiency you want a Worcester Bosch control then (they have a proprietary bus, EMS, that Nest etc. can't communicate with to extract the last few %) & they will warranty it for as long as the boiler (up to 10 years for a 4000 if installed by an accredited installer, with a filter & subject to an annual service).
    Various options https://www.worcester-bosch.co.uk/products/boiler-controls
  • I have a nest, moved from the hallway into the living room. Small house so it’s also by the stairwell.
Have had no issues with it full stop. It is hardwired though - it backs onto an integral garage which in turns backs onto the toilet where the boiler is at the front of the house. No issue with having to get under floorboards etc, just 2 holes for the wire.
