How to Take Apart a Black and Decker KS900S Type 1 Jigsaw

Options
The shell plate on my jigsaw has broken.  I thought I'd replace it myself, save money and I'm not sure this jigsaw is made anymore so can't be replaced (and can't afford to right now).  Found this https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Black+and+Decker+JS660+Shoe+Plate+Replacement/77741.

Removed every single screw as instructed, but need to seperate the two housing halves as per Step 2.  I can't seem to get them to move at all lol.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Or a website I can visit with instructions for beginners on repairing jigsaws lol.

I promise I have definitely removed all the screws.  I've checked and doubled checked.  There's probably some trick to it I just can't figure out (its always things like this that catch me out).

Obviously I have already obtained a replacment shell plate if I can just figure out how to prise the two housing parts apart.

Thank you for your help.

Have you tried putting something into the joint to prise it apart? DO NOT USE a blade/knife or anything that is sharp enough to cause you a trip to the hospital.

Perhaps loosen the shoe plate first? The instructions suggest otherwise but perhaps its holding the two sides together.

I would start prising the sides apart by grabbing the mains lead and rubber bung and pulling it to one side, then use a plastic implement to work around the slightly open joint until it pops. Or get a good grip of the sides from where the sole plate has been removed and prise open there.

Is your jig saw exactly like the one shown? I dismantled my Bosch one recently and they'd hidden a screw under a rubberised plate on the handle. Once I'd undone that mine opened fairly easily - but I did need to prise it a bit.

I am afraid I gave up, even using chisels to prise the two apart, I only managed to get one half of the jigsaw panels apart.  I did try to loosen the shoe plate and even with WD40, the screws didn't move at all.  First time I have given up on this kind of thing.  I've dismantled vacuums etc.., this was impossible lol.

That's a pity. Sounds like the sides have bonded together somehow, or they've been glued as well, which surely isn't likely.

If postage was cheaper, I would offer to have a go at it myself, although you sound as if you're well experienced at this sort of thing.

Have you got one of those repair shed type places nearby, where blokes gather to meet up and fix things?

Oh, just thought. I wonder if heating the casing, near the seams, with a hair drier before trying again to prise the sides apart might work.
