Sad it has to come to this, but it's happening. There are a few similar community schemes being organised as well.
Manchester Airport Group is majority owned by the councils of Greater Manchester, and they've done very well out of it.
But it could easily have gone the other way and been a terrible investment. The only answer to which would be councils sticking their money in savings accounts and earning very little, which you'd likely criticise them for too.0
