how to report wrong number plate on van?

Continually annoyed by work vans parked in my road, I checked the dvla to see if they were taxed. It turns out that both the vans are registered to expensive sports cars. Is this an offence, I would think so as any tickets etc would go to the owners of the sports cars. Is there a way of reporting this?

Call 101? Sounds like stolen plates.1

The same plates have been used for months, so I doubt stolen. More likely there is some connection between the cars and the vans.0

They've maybe been transferred and it's either gone wrong or taken a while to update.
But yeah, call 101 and get the police to look into it.

There was a case I saw on TV years back where the owner had 2 cars very similar, didn't tax/insure one and put the same plates on both cars to avoid being caught, police pulled for something and realised one was the wrong colour (like blue and black)
It seems an odd way to do it this way around though (I'd have thought insuring the van is cheaper than a sports car), but perhaps they have reason to not want the vans pulled but also don't want to pay for them - maybe the van doesn't have business insurance for example which hits everyone else0 -
These are personalised plates. Maybe they sold the cars and didn't want to pay to retain them?Deleted_User said:There was a case I saw on TV years back where the owner had 2 cars very similar, didn't tax/insure one and put the same plates on both cars to avoid being caught, police pulled for something and realised one was the wrong colour (like blue and black)

I've reported on the anonymous website crimestoppers. I looked on the dvla website, but there didn't seem to be anywhere to report crimes. Crimestoppers suggested reporting to dvla, but I could not find a way to do that.0 -
That's a waste of time then.thebeeches said:

If they didn't put the plates on retention then the right to that plate was sold with the car - just physically moving the plate to the van would mean what your first post suggested - any tickets etc. go to the current owner of the car and plate. Which would work for a bit until the new owner of the plate has flagged it to the police with the details of the previous owner.thebeeches said:These are personalised plates.
