Smart meter
I have wanted to have a smart meter installed for a while. Our electricity supplier says our phone signal is not strong enough - we are rural but not that rural. Does the smart meter need a traditional mobile signal or can it work through wifi calls? Sorry if this is a silly question - I just can’t seem to find the answer anywhere?

Not necessarily. Parts of the South have been set up for Mesh rather than WAN when direct contact is problematical . Where a Mesh has been established, meters cascade across the Mesh until a direct meter to WAN connection is found. I confess that I have no idea what criteria suppliers use before they establish a Mesh.QrizB said:If you're in the south of the UK, it needs Telefonica (O2) mobile signal.Wifi calling isn't an option, sorry. It is also possible to fit an external aerial to some models of communications hubs.0 -
Actually found this information online but so far my energy provider isn’t responding to my question regarding change of meter
