Well, I'm typing this on the laptop whilst my desktop is undergoing a Spybot scan.
The computer in question has slowed up to such an extent that paint dries quicker.
I have gone to a few sites that each suggest different approaches.
Apparently it is likely that a company cald adware lop or similar have embedded this adware in some software my dd downloaded.
This is causing the popups and possibly slowing the pc down.
I have run No Lop in safe mode
I have run Super Anti Spyware
I have run Ad-aware
I am now running the Spybot for the 2nd time after rebooting.
Each programme claims to find different problems with the machine. Up to running Spybot I have still been getting these popups.
I suspect I'm about to finish the set of instructions here and post a log on this forum.

It is people like this that legally threaten companies like Adaware to leave them alone and not mark the software as spyware.
Two things together will probably cure it (1) process explorer (2) unlocker 1.8.5
install (2) first then (1).
Have as few progs open as poss and with (2) running (wand in systems tray) run (1) sort for cpu usage, right click on properties, find the file that runs it kill that process and rename Filename.exe to Filename_zzz.exe - don't delete and if it is in its own bespoke folder rename the folder too!
Log off reboot, do this twice and now do the above again and it still should have vanished - if you are lucky.
There just may be another process that copies it back again. that is where you use your renamed file and look for other files of the same size/date on the system.
Just a quick thought... forget the above 3 paragraphs for a second, type cmd, then netstat -b and is there anything there you do not recognise? then rename as above. this method it is quicker than process explorer, but process explorer shows hidden stuff, calling programs etc. tooGOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.

Thanks for that.
The problem is that the computer in question is so slow that I am having to access this forum from another pc!
I have had to reboot the other PC several times as it is so slow. I'm on the verge of formatting the HD. I've been on this for 2 whole days now.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -

There are some amaizing tools out there. I am now running AVG Anti Spyware and AVG anti Virus. I was running spybot, Adaware and superanti.... as well, but I found that 3 or more antispyware sytems on the pc made it very slow.
Thansk to all here for your help and suggestions.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0
