Transfer tariffs on home move
I am in the process of buying a new home. I am currently on a 2 year fixed electric and gas tariff with Scottish Power and hoped to move my tariff with me when the time comes.
Following a 1 hour 10 mins on hold to their Home move team I was told that keeping my tariff was not possible despite the fact that ScottishPower currently also supply the new property.
As other energy providers do allow the transfer of tariff to a new address, why can’t ScottishPower?
Seems like they are taking the opportunity to get me off this fixed rate and force me onto higher rate.

Anyone else managed to do this?

Not true. Most tariffs are not transferable, but some are. But very much the minority, and I don't recall SP being among them.
If the incoming property wasn't SP, you would be in a deemed tariff anyway, so would have to register with the existing provider and then come back to SP, so even then it's messy. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Your tariff is for your property and not for you as a person.
While some suppliers are still allowing customers to take a fixed tariff with them to a new property, there is no rule that they have to do that. So if SP decides they will not allow this there is nothing you can do.
You can try a complaint, but a said above, your contract is for the property with you as the owner, so the next one moving in also won't get the cheap energy.0 -
