Tenant rights when there's a bad smell!

I recently had a very active wasp nest treated at my rental property outside the bathroom window (the bathroom is downstairs). Following the removal there has been a really horrible smell in the bathroom which it seems is the nest rotting! A wasp company came to have a look and said tiles and roof seal would need to be removed to access and dispose of the nest. This is quite a big job which I am sure my landlord will not want to do and I would like to know my rights as a tenant. My contract is until November and the wasp guy said the smell wont go on its own before then, although it will go eventually. I don't really want to live with this smell until then, its pretty gross. My landlord is usually non-responsive and not particularly cooperative so I would like to know where I stand under tenants rights. Can anyone shed some light? Thanks!

The nest should'nt rot, it is dry, more likely a dead squirrel.

In fact they say to leave the old nest in as it stops wasps coming back.

You need to get someone to have a proper look.

It's the dead larvae from the nest rotting. We has a wasp expert look at it and he confirmed this. Interesting about the wasps coming back. Not sure we can live with the smell though!
  • You'd be surprised that removing tiles from a roof isn't actually that big a job. I suppose it depends where on the roof exactly, but I had some chimney flashings and surrounding tiles removed recently and all the roofers who quoted said it was a minor job.
