Working holiday - package or not?

Hi,
I am planning on an extended working holiday in Australia soon and am unsure whether it would be best to book a flight independent of any accommodation or to book a short hotel stay in order to qualify as a package and therefore, obtain ATOL protection. I will not require more than 3 to 4 days in a hotel once I arrive in Australia as I will be staying in accommodation arranged elsewhere.
I'm also interested in the best travel insurance policy for overseas travel beyond the usual 30 days cover.
Any thoughts welcomed on booking a package or not and travel insurance.

Who would book a package for an extended stay?Best to just get decent backpackers insurance. Read the small print to ensure it meets your needs before buying

Maybe somebody can offer clarity - I suspect a package holiday deal would ony be recognised as such if the departure and return dates match up with the dates of the accommodation ?

No, there is no such stipulation - the definition of 'package' for the purposes of the protection afforded under the Package Travel Regulations is given at paragraph 5 in https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2018/634/regulation/2/madeNoodleDoodleMan said:Maybe somebody can offer clarity - I suspect a package holiday deal would ony be recognised as such if the departure and return dates match up with the dates of the accommodation ?2
