This sounds like the situation I was in with my late mum some years ago. We applied for attendance allowance and it was successful. Your nana is getting a lot of 'attending to' from you and your mum to do things she wouldn't be able to do on her own. I would definitely apply, you've got nothing to lose.
The important things in life are not things ........1 -
Radiators turned off or low in (unused) rooms and gas central heating only coming on for 2 hours early morning and an hour and half (or 2hr) in the evening, Is the correct way to save money, Is the loft topped up to 270mm?
As the has been mould issues all rads could be set to 1-2 rather than frost, Is the an extractor in the bathroom, A dryer, Vented or condensing?
A dehumidifier may be the best way to keep the place Dry!1 -
Hi I have just gotten off the telephone to EDF to get her totals, however, because she was previously a 5 person household until April of this year I'm guessing it will be difficult to gage.pochase said:
You have not given any usage figures, what was the usage for gas and electricity over a 12 months period.
If the estimates are anything to go by especially for electricity she is not frugal at all, she uses more than average, almost 4000Kwh, while gas is on the low side.
Once you have given real usage data it will be much easier to give more advice.
Yearly usage is as follows
Electric 3909 KW
Gas 7020 KW
They have told me the fixed rates are no longer available now and to try online next month if its fixed that we want.0 -
she wasn't opening any windows because she was so cold plus they never opened the bathroom windows after showering ad she cannot reach bathroom window so that was a recipe for disaster....markin said:Radiators turned off or low in (unused) rooms and gas central heating only coming on for 2 hours early morning and an hour and half (or 2hr) in the evening, Is the correct way to save money, Is the loft topped up to 270mm?

Re the radiators, there is no unused rooms and the kitchen is tiled so baltic in there at the best of times, so I have no idea why they were turning it off, also their bedroom was off and no windows open ever, the mould was ridiculous when I finally got in there after they vacated... and yes I put dehumidifier in the rooms one by one and we have the little tiny disposable ones now.0 -
No issue with the fix no longer available. From below table she would have paid more until March on the fixed tariff, and potentially started to save in April, only after making up the earlier losses.
Gas usage is no problem, just as mentioned earlier the electricity use is very high, most likely due to the people living with her. As suggested maybe take a few readings over the next week to see if it has come down.

Have you got an ACTUAL Elec reading from April ? If you read the meter today then you can work out how much you've used in 4 months. Trebling it will give you an idea of an annual consumption - it will be on the low side as we use a bit more in Winter than Summer (more lights etc)Loubie47 said:
