Gatwick drop off NCP fine £100

hello, I have a £100 fine for not paying the drop off charge back in Feb 22. I tried but like many people the website wasnt working.
- I sent them a signed for letter as appeal - they didn't respond
- on receipt of next letter I tried to appeal online - that part of the website wouldnt recognise my ticket
- sent a second signed for letter - stating website not working, signage was poor ( was at the time) and £100 for a £5 fee wasnt proportionate & about to be illgeal
- received 3rd demand for £100 and responded only to signage, ignoring the comments about broken website & disproportionate fine.
- sent 3rd signed for letter saying they ignored my 1st appeal, ignored my comments (procedural impropriety)
- they have sent on to debt collectors raising the fee to £170.
Any other ideas out there? I would have and have subsequently (for different days) paid, were the website functioning. But this feels icky where a company uses software not fit for purpose, doesn't answer the phone, and then throws disproportionate fees at users when their system doesn't work.
I see NCP is part of popla but when I checked them trust pilot has a 1 star rating suggesting from most of 500 that they are privately run for private companies
Thanks for any additional help

Just ignore** it now unless/until you receive a Letter Before Claim from solicitors representing NCP or a formal Court Claim from the Northampton CCBC. Come back if you receive either.
** That includes silly debt collector letters. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

If you think they didn't handle your appeal properly and the signage and payment system at Gatwick is absolutely shocking, email Sara Roberts at the BPA and ask her to add your case to the ongoing complaint (ref BPA032489):
