Thanks for the advice everybody. I'll look into the possibility of moving to SDD.

If you give us the exact model, etc, that may help - does it have a Service Tag?

            https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-uk?app=warranty
Enter the service tag there and then you'll find a link for View Product Specs on the Overview tab.Jenni x0

Thanks for the link Jenni_D. I've run the diagnostics and everything passed. During the test it did display a message that it was taking longer than usual, so I suspect I simply have to accept that the old beast simply hasn't got the resources to handle the latest updates to some of the software. I use it mainly for internet access and a bit of Word etc, and it manages that OK for the most part. I'll make sure I have everything of importance backed up, just to play safe.

If you are seriously considering an SSD, then best watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyPuf7udlI8 I'm assuming it's a 17" model (?)You need a 2½" SATA SSD - choose the biggest one you can afford perhaps, but I'm sure the 500GB will be fine if you're currently only using 20% of 1TBWhen you've replaced it, just do this ....Although the original youtube says 'clone your drive' I always prefer to do a clean install as a clone will reinstall all the rubbish that you've accumulated over time!Good luck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyPuf7udlI8 I'm assuming it's a 17" model (?)You need a 2½" SATA SSD - choose the biggest one you can afford perhaps, but I'm sure the 500GB will be fine if you're currently only using 20% of 1TBWhen you've replaced it, just do this ....Although the original youtube says 'clone your drive' I always prefer to do a clean install as a clone will reinstall all the rubbish that you've accumulated over time!Good luck.
