OVO

I love Martin Lewis and always listen to what he has to say.
I moved on to a fixed rate for my utilities back in July.  OVO were suggested as a company that was offering this,
In less than a month they have tried to increase my DD TWICE! I spoke to them 10 days ago, sorted it all out, had an apology and now they've done the exact same thing again.  This time they cut me off on the phone (and no I was not being rude, barely finished handing over my details!) and have now been waiting 2 hours for a response from the feedback facility.
Have I made a very grave mistake moving to OVO?

    Welcome to the forum.

What is your annual use and  what is the rate you are on?

What is the DD they want to put you on.
  • I've moved to OVO in July (fix approx £2700 on av use) and I've found the usage forecast and DD levels to be quite good. I've got a smart meter so they take daily readings, but we need to see your usage figures and fix rates.  I always access the dd rates usage and billing from the website.

What is your usage in kwh the last 12 months, and what are the rates of the tariff, please?

Remember that it's the unit rates that are fixed, not your direct debit - if you use more than was estimated than when you signed up, and the current direct debit doesn't cover your usage, then it will have to increase.
  • also, if you moved to them in July there may be an inflated DD in order to get your account in credit in preparation for the winter months.

As others have said - tariff details, annual usage, latest meter reads submitted, account in debit/credit. Your question can only be guessed at as you've provided little information for people to give their opinions.

OVO have been dreadful for me, for d/d gouging. My total electricity bill has varied little £120-140 month for the past year yet their automated systems still keep putting my d/d up to £280/month. At one point they had £520 of my money, which took an argument and 10 days to get back. I eventually got them to lower the d/d to £160, but literally two days later their automated system put it back up again.

I'd avoid like the plague, personally.
