Car insurance for Apprentice (Employed or Student) ??

our son is starting a paid Degree Apprenticeship (with day release) soon and is having to move into a rented room nearer to work as its too far to commute.
We need to renew his car insurance soon (2 years no claims) but unfortunately the move will be to a higher risk area so we're expecting an increase. but we're not sure what to class him as either employed or a student - as both could seem to fit. Some sites don't include an apprentice in the "Job" title and have limited choices
is it true that a Student will pay higher premiums if studying away from home - any suggestions for sorting something reasonable?
Any help appreciated..
