You can still pre-pay with smart meters. You don't need to have a credit account.Livinlovinlaughin said:pre paid meter have definitely helped me budget and save, I have had them for at least 15 plus years.

It sounds like they're going to try to force you to have a smart meter by not replacing a like for like (I don't even know if traditional meters are still available). Are you putting some money away for when they hit you with the debit you've built up while the old one is broken? My supplier keeps "inviting" me to book an appointment for a smart meter and I suspect that soon it won't be an ask but a "this is when we're coming". The good news is you'll save a few hundred quid on swapping to smart meters. Let us know what you decide to do, you'll probably have to send them monthly readings whatever the outcome - I've yet to hear of a properly smart meter and they only have one jobLivinlovinlaughin said:

Using EDF s list , Yorkshire Region and using 2000 kwh electric and 12000 kwhs gasMWT said:Prepayment is cheaper than paying your bill on receipt by cash/cheque, it is not cheaper than paying by DD though.
works out to be a total of £156 a year more paying by prepayment meter rather than direct debit for dual fuel .
Each region is different
Electric 2000kwhs is £119 more by prepayment than dd
.
Gas 12000 kwh s is £37 .95 more by prepayment than dd1 -

Why is the EDF pricelist saying for the Yorkshire region that the cost for electricity (single rate) for prepaid is 0.23p cheaper per KWh, or £4.60 cheaper per year for the 2000KWh? Gas is 0.011p more expensive per KWh, that is £1.32 more expensive per year for 12000KWh.SAC2334 said:

As mentioned before there is a higher standing charge, but the KWh are almost the same.
