Opening meter reading dispute

I recently changed from Shell to Utility Warehouse. I submitted my gas reading as 24802. Apparently XOserve have rejected this saying it is out of keeping with previous readings and instead have put my opening reading as 24899.
Now - this is wrong, but considering I am actually paying more with Utility Warehouse than Shell do I just go with it? My problem is that I am now being asked for my monthly reading for UW and it is still lower than my opening reading. I don't have to submit a reading - it is not obligatory - but what if in three months time, the reading is still lower?
They say I can open up a dispute if there's a "large difference" but what constitutes a large difference?
Any advice? many thanks.

Just send them a pic of your opening read, with the meter s/n visible. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Your new supplier will only charge you the daily standing charge until the meter index reading passes the agreed switch reading. Before you get too excited, the actual saving is 24899 - 24802 (new unit price - old unit price).0 -
What was your Shell price and what is the UW?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

The 250Kwh @MWT mentions is for electricity.
For your gas account the 97 units are about 1086KWh, which is still below the acceptable difference of 1200KWh for gas.
Only exception would be if you are on a old ft3 meter. Is your gas meter a m3 meter? You will find the information on the meter, either it will say m3 or ft3.
You will need to pay about £80 more at the old supplier, but you will be saving more than that at UW.

were you giving regular readings and making sure that your bills were correctly using them or have you been happily accepting estimated bills.
If so, it's not surprising that a final reading is out of step compared with previous consumption.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
