Thanks for the replies.  I wanted opinions before making a decision as they’re not cheap and should be a considered purchase.
  • How is the statement that they use far less electricity than a normal cooker compatible with the laws of science?
To this scientist, the position of the element looks extremely inefficient - it looks very likely to cost much more than probably any other method of cooking.
The fact that it gets very hot should indicate that it's wasting lots of heat.
Looks like another of those illogical fads to me.
Remoskas have been around since the 1950s.

That is a very long fad.

I am a great fan of Remoskas even though mine is one of the early models with minimum refinement. Put in a chicken portion a potato and a carrot, add a sliced courgette after 30 minutes and you have a lovely meal for one after 40 minutes. Cheap because the volume is small which keeps the power consumption small.

Even so, I take the point that it does throw off a lot of surplus heat. I try to use this by warming plates below it or above it and, of course, it is warming the room too.

    Some Remoska favourites:
    • Potatoes: leave the jackets on, brush with oil, lovely; especially Charlottes.
    • Croissants: those JusRol cook-it-yourself croissants are delicious, brush with milk to start with.
    • Pork chops, chicken, fish, lamb; all good.
    • Frozen vegetables from frozen.
Take care when operating and opening — some seriously hot surfaces that need avoiding. Keep young children well away!

we've had and used a remoska for at least 10 years and its great. it completely replaced our main oven and that's as a family of two adults and two kids.

we recently bought an air fryer (a 5L one that can take a whole if small chicken). after having and using them both for a few months now i'd say both have their place and i would replace both if they broke.

the remoska is great for stews/casseroles lasagnes cottage pies and the like. or baking (cakes flapjacks or biscuits) or roasting large pieces of meat.

the air fryer is great for sausages, hash browns, pitta pizza/cheese on toast, small pieces of meat (think chicken legs rather than a whole chicken) breaded things like fish and surprisingly fried eggs.
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.
  • When my old fan oven broke for the second time I decided to get myself a remoska as an emergency standby until I got myself a new oven. That was over 5 years ago and I never bothered getting a new oven but carried on using the remoska. As a single it is perfect and all the meals I used to cook in the full size oven now taste even nicer and take less time to cook. Yes it has a behind the iron curtain feel to it and you do need to take care over it’s heated lid. But I love it. And if it breaks will get another…
  • Thanks everyone.  I ordered one a couple of weeks ago, waiting for dispatch now
