EDF meter reading
This week I’ve been asked for a meter reading.I found this a bit odd as we had smart meters fitted 2018.it has come to light that the gas smart meter hasn’t been registering our usage since shortly after it was installed.as I pay direct debit I haven’t been looking at my bills so I’m expecting a big bill to pay for the gas I’ve used in the last 4 years.maybe I should of spotted this error earlier, but surely the error is EDF fault and I shouldn’t be expected to pay for the backdated gas.any advice

Have your bills been estimated ? Look for the letter E against the reading.
Read your meter and give the reading to EDF and find out what the money involved is first before you jump -- it may be that your DD has more than covered the cost.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Are they in their rights to bill me for the 4 years of gas I haven’t paid/been billed for?0

Have you checked your bills? It is likely that they have been estimating your bill so you have been paying, although probably not the right amount.Mrgwa34 said:Are they in their rights to bill me for the 4 years of gas I haven’t paid/been billed for?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
It depends on what the balance is when the account is billed up correctly. Did you get any letters asking for meter readings? Could be if it’s all estimated it might be over or it might be under & if your direct debits cover everything including any refunds you have had then then yes they are within their rightsMrgwa34 said:Are they in their rights to bill me for the 4 years of gas I haven’t paid/been billed for?0 -
The gas reading on my bills over the last 4 years have been stuck on 167 they asked for a reading last week and I’ve sent them a reading of 4099.will I have to pay for all this gas I have used for the last 4 years

that’s a that’s a bit of a different matter. I can’t believe you’ve never looked at a bill for 4 years and have now only realised what was happening. If the smart meter was returning reads of 167, how are EDF to know you were using gas? Did they send any letters asking for readings or anything? If you’re paperless they will be on your online account. Why all of a sudden have you given a meter reading?0

How much in DD have you been paying over the last 4 years ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

They’ve only just asked for a meter reading last week first time since the smart meter was installed.I have been paying approximately £70 a month the last 4 years (gas and electric) the reason I never noticed was because the price never increased so obviously I was happy with what I was paying so didn’t look too closely at it.0
