help

Hi there, I have taken (privately) a deposit for concert tickets, I was going to meet the person on the day with the paper tickets. We now can go either, I offered to send the paper tiickets through the post but they said no and ranted at me, I was going to send the deposit plus a further 20 to say sorry back. Am I acting morally and legally here, i cant see what else I can do

thanks

    What date is the concert?
Why can't you meet the buyer?
How did they pay the deposit?
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

So I'm assuming you have tickets to this concert then had sold your spare ones, and have taken a deposit and were planning on meeting these people at the concert where they would pay the balance and then you would give them the tickets?

Now you can no longer attend, you therefore cannot meet them to hand over the tickets, so would need the balance paying then you would send them in the post? I can see why this looks suspicious - they are paying a LOT of money out and you might not send them!

If they're not happy with this, then just give them the option of refunding the deposit in full (no need to refund more) or could you not meet them in advance somewhere else to hand over the tickets and they pay cash?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Sounds like you're acting as correctly as you can in the circumstances.  I suppose you could be difficult and say that they've rejected the perfectly reasonable resolution you've offered so that's that.  But, from their point of view, I can see why it looks dodgy.

When you say they "ranted at you", what exactly happened?  They shouted down the phone at you, or just sent you a text message making it clear they weren't happy?

Were the tickets even transferable in the first place?
  • I understand if they think it is dodgy, but I am offering a full refund and compensation, they paid a deposit till the day, as I was also going but cant go now, and its 150 miles away. they were going to meet me at the venue, and dont want the tickets posted to them which I offered to do and would do recorded delivery.
Ranting on a message, etc, its just on gumtree so not on a ticket sale site or anything, but I just want to do what it correct in this instance, thanks for the message

If you can't go then you can't go, these things happen.
When you told the buyer what solution did they suggest?

Quite often when I have bought tickets online on behalf of a group I have had to be one of the attendees and show the card I paid with when attending. This is supposed to reduce theft of tickets, forgery, etc.
Is that the case for your concert? Just as important, are your buyers concerned there might be a problem if the original purchaser is not present?

  • Hi, no as paper tickets, and it doesnt state on ticket, as I am 150 miles away, I have just caught covid, and so no one else is going. They havent made a suggestion, as they don't want them sending in post which is fair enough, so I offered a refund of deposit back with a bit extra for the inconvenience. They live locally so there are no expenses already made etc.
  • What are you going to do with the tickets then?
  • Nothing really, maybe see if anyone else wants them posting I suppose.
