Using the underground with through rail ticket

I have bought an Advance rail ticket for a journey coming up this week, but as my ticket shows I can use any routes ( though I have a seat resevatioon on a London train ) there does not seem to be a symbol showing my ticket is valid for the underground. Obviously I could take a taxi or go by bus, but my question is, how / where do I get a ticket if I opt for the tube between St Pancras and Waterloo?

National rail and TFL systems are no longer fully compatible. If you have an old style credit card sized ticket printed at a ticket office or machine you can use these at underground station gates.
If you have a longer paper ticket, or an eticket with a QR code, TFL don't have these readers on the gates, so no access to Underground.
You can try and change the ticket for an old style credit card ticket, but it needs to be done at a ticket office, you coukd show your ticket to a member of staff at the Underground station and hope they let you through at both ends, otherwise use contactless.

If you have a single ticket via London terminals, then it's valid for the tube section of the journey. No free lunch, and no free laptop1

According to thisit will be valid on the tube if it has a cross (
) printed on the ticket

If you live near a ticket office that can print you an old style card ticket or have time to have it sent by post then you are relying on the barrier staff to use discretion to let you through otherwise you'll be paying again, which slows you down which is unfair to those who haven't any choice but to purchase online or from on train staff.
Although if you are travelling to St Pancreas from Euston it's quicker to walk by the time you've walked through Euston's and St Pancreas' underground station it's probably shorter to.1 -
Thanks everyone for your useful replies.
I do have printed tickets, credit card size, with the symbol, so presumably they will go through the gates OK and the machine won't swallow them! I do see that my tube journey includes at least one change.
My outward journey is for specific trains, with not a huge amount of time for the London connection, so if the first one is late, I may have to get a taxi.
I seem to recall catching a bus direct between St Pancras and Waterloo before, some years ago, but it does not seem to be the same route now and involves a walk one end or the other, so won't be quicker.0 -
I doubt you will find a taxi significantly quicker than the tube and if the traffic is bad............... TfL suggests 23 mins by tube including time for the change at Oxford Circus (19 minutes including walk time to St Pancras to Euston) and take tube to Waterloo.2

The journey time on the tube will be around 20 minutes - Victoria line to Oxford Circus then Bakerloo to Waterloo. A taxi is unlikely to be faster. If your incoming train to St Pancras is late, the staff at Waterloo should allow you on the next train if you miss your connection. How long is it between the scheduled arrival at St Pancras and departing Waterloo?1

That is worth knowing, thanks.
My train is due to arrive at St. P at 12.27 and the train leaves Waterloo at 13.20 next Saturday.0 -
The change at Oxford Circus is very easy. You just walk to the opposite platform on the same level. Don't follow people out, just nip through to the the other platform. You should make it easily in time. If the ticket doesn't work in the gate at kings cross the staff will let you through.1
