Had to go into town today and there is no free parking within a few blocks of the place I was going. So I went to the nearby parking lot. Don't know who runs it.
As I was pulling in I peered at the small sign (10 feet up?) outside that gave the prices. I think, but can't be sure, that 1 hour's parking would cost £1.40 which was fine as I had about £6 in various coins in my pocket. I entered the car park and found a place easily (I was most concerned about this as it's a relatively easy walk to the south coast beach which would soon be heaving). Having taken care to ensure that I was inside the lines and not in a disabled spot I then looked around for a way to pay. And it was all by parking apps. No payment machines at all. There was a notice about 3 different apps that could be used and a couple of phone numbers. I tried ringing them but all they said was to download the app to pay for parking. So being unable to pay I then left. Previously when I've needed to pay somewhere nearby there's either been a machine that took coins or a number you could text to pay. Either of these would have been fine by me.
I might have been there 5 minutes in total. I would guess that there are cameras to clock the cars coming and going. So presumably I may be charged for not paying to park. Or maybe nothing will happen as I was there for such a short time.
My question then is....given that I won't know what will happen about this for some time should I return to the scene of the crime and take some photos of the signs? Didn't think to do it when I was there but need to go back to the same vicinity in a couple of days.

Just additionally....shouldn't the signs inside the parking lot show they prices as well? How do people know how much they are going to be charged or if the app is showing the correct price or something. There should be a grace period to cover circumstances like this. Worry not, but if you do get a PCN to the Registered Keeper come back - and do not name the driver or contact the PPC before checking with us.

Get your photos if you receive a NtK. Which parking firm is active there - that can often be relevant as to whether anything further will ensue. Some are more venal than others (all relative!).Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
