Also the companies that reside in the UK make their money not just in the UK and other countries also want taxes.
If you overdo it with additional taxes (there was already a windfall tax in May) they may just leave the country and suddenly you don't have more tax money, you have less.
This companies made a lot of loss in the last years, did you also suggest they should pay less tax when that happend?0 -
How do you tax a company that isn't in the UK and isn't registered with the UK for tax purposes? The companies in the UK selling you the energy are typically only making 2% profit. If they have 2.2 million customers all paying the £2000, that's 4.4bn, so 88 million profit, so 10% of that is 8.8 million, so about £4 cash back to each customer?AlanGF1969 said:Surely it's easy enough for the UK Governments (England, Scotland, etc.) to tax the big energy companies like BP an extra 10%, then send a chunk to every household to bring the bills down to what they were a year or so ago.
Easy to do - don't know why they aren't doing this!

Before someone says "just re-nationalise them" - try and think where would this new government energy company buy fuel from? Likely the same place as it comes from at the moment, at the same price that it is presently bought for.
Works in France because it's mostly nuclear and the cost of fuel doesn't really affect the price at a nuclear station - we missed that boat years ago.0
