Energy rebate voucher expiry date

Options
I am on a prepayment meter and topping up £250 (maximum) before April 2022 really helped because I am on the tariff rate before the price increase, until the £250 run out.
I plan to do the same before the next price increase in October 2022.
But was wondering if the government vouchers we will be getting have an expiry date?

My provider (Bulb) only lets me top up maximum £250. I wanted to use the voucher when this runs out.  But I can't if it expires.

Does anyone know if there is an expiry date on them?

Many thanks,
Catherine

Others have said they will expire 6 months after date of issue.

Don’t think anyone will really know until they are received.

They will likely expire after 3 months, just like Post Office Payout vouchers and Warm Home Discount vouchers.

You should be able to get them reissued until maybe March or April ish I reckon.

The scheme will likely operate like other similar schemes, where the supplier has to make 2 attempts to get the money to a customer. In other schemes the supplier can credit a gas or electricity bill instead of issuing another voucher if it hasn't been cashed / not received etc, or as a last resort the supplier can issue a cheque or a voucher for cash.

Knowing how the vouchers work - if you have a key fob for gas as well as electricity you will probably be able to use the vouchers for either in practice.

"should" "likely" "probably" is the best anyone can say at the moment until ofgem issue the guidance or draft guidance.

edit: Just to add once the credit is on the key it doesn't expire, so you can cash some vouchers and wait 'til later to add it to the meter.
  • Great thanks for all the info.  I think I will put the voucher on the key so it doesn't expire
