Unresolved Bond dispute

I found a bond certificate for a children's bond along with the surrender form when clearing some papers.  I wrote to NS&I and had an automated response saying the bond no longer exists.  It was unfortunate that I sent the certificate and form with my original letter although I did make scanned copies.    I wrote again asking what had happened to the money only to receive the same standard response.  My daughter then wrote asking for evidence that the payment had been made and was told that this was paid out on 7th October 2022 ( My daughter's 21st Birthday) and that the payment would only have been made on receipt of signed maturity instructions from her.  However,  I cannot understand how this can be as I still had the original bond certificate and surrender form.   Clearly there is no way of confirming this as it was so long agao.
Is it worth taking the case to the Financial Ombudsman service

Did you mean to state 7th October 2022?

Was paid out on what date? 7/10/2022 is still 6 weeks away.

On the assumption that 2022 is a typo for 2012, 2002 or some other year "so long ago":
However,  I cannot understand how this can be as I still had the original bond certificate and surrender form.

Surrender forms can't be "original", a surrender form is just printed out when required and filled in.

Your daughter could have surrendered the bond without the original certificate by declaring it was lost (or NS&I might not have needed it at all as they have records at their end).

Clearly there is no way of confirming this as it was so long ago.

    Have you asked your daughter?

It would only be worth pursuing this if she is certain she never received it.
