Hi,
I'm after a bit of advice please!
I've found out that my energy supplier has passed my email address over to another customer for them to contact me regarding their solar panel readings!
I only discovered this after the said customer emailed me with their name, address, meter readings, meter serial number etc.
It transpires we were both on live chat at the same time and I was asked to confirm my email address as part of the security questions so I'm assuming that's how it's been passed on.
The energy company have admitted all of this and have offered me £20 goodwill gesture applied to my account as compensation!
Do I have any rights to seek more compensation?
Thanks for reading!

How much would satisfy you for this data breach or do you just want to make sure this is raised to the proper authorities?1

Hi Mstty,
Thanks for replying!
I lost my dad in June after spending 11 days and nights at his hospital bed and I've been trying to sort his affairs out as well as this at the same time! Do you feel £20 is enough?
Apparently they've reported it to the ICO themselves but I don't think within the given 72 hour timeframe that they have to report it.0 -
I was just going to say report it to the ICO1

I felt it wasn't enough! They said they have their compensation amounts set by OFGEM and its standard for missed appointments and loss of gas/electric!Zombie_government said:£20?! That's a shoddy first offer in my opinion.
I'd reject it outright.0 -
What material loss have you suffered?BonBonWoof said:Hi,

I lost my dad in June and the time I've spent sorting out this could have been spent sorting out some of my dad's affairs!MattMattMattUK said:

I am a bit lost what the time to sort this out refers to? How much time have you spend to sort what out?1

I've sent countless emails with screenshots of emails with the other customers details and conversations I've had to get my head round what had gone on etc.pochase said:I am a bit lost what the time to sort this out refers to? How much time have you spend to sort what out?
I've been on the phone to them for well over 2 hours, most of that time was on hold trying to speak to a customer service advisor.
I know it won't seem like much to you!

Take the offer and forget about it.
Mistakes happen.
It would have taken no more than 10 minutes to sort, excluding holding time.0 -
Jot up the time it spent you, multiply by minimum wage hourly rate and send that to them.
See what they say
Sometimes this board is embarrassing wait til more lay into you.1
