New stairs carpet price

Is £300 an average price for a basic pile stairs carpet? Just the stairs not landing or hallway. Includes fitting? I’ve no idea as it’s been years since we had one.

Seems quite high to me, though I'm a tight !!!!!! and live in a "cheap" part of the country (wales) - Id probably be expecting to pay 150-200 including delivery, gripers and fitting for a half-decent carpet.

Half day is likely to be the minimum labour, at £30+ per hour that's nearly half the total gone already.  On that basis I don't think the price is excessive.

I’d say that’s unbelievably cheap, are you sure that’s supply and fit?

I thought it was in the high side. He said cheaper carpet £270 fitted, mid range £305. 3x4 m is what I need, fitting is £150!

Yes, carpet with fitting, no underlay as I already have it.

I wonder how long carpet at the bottom end of the price range will last on stairs.

Sounds on the expensive side. We've been quoted £400 for main stairs plus landing plus attic stairs all in. They are reusing the old grippers as they are better quality than what they can source now, quote includes underlay as ours is old, but doesn't include any time for removal of old carpets as I have already done that. Carpet is £12/m2.

A straight staircase shouldn't take more than a couple of hours. Given the 3x4m I would assume it has a kink on it somewhere, but 12m2 of cheapish carpet @ £12/m2 is £144. Couple of hours fitting, and you are near the £200 mark. Having said that, our old carpet fitter (who is now too old) used to charge £50 a room, or £75 for stairs to fit, irrespective of size. He did used to have more tea breaks than work time but he did a good job.

Not sure at today prices, but I paid £7.99 a meter about 7 years ago, its got some signs of wear up the centre, but so far so good...
