Exclusive Fixed Tariff offer from British Gas

Hi

We've received an e-mail this morning about an exclusive fixed tariff offer from British Gas and we're not sure whether to accept it or not.

We're on a variable tariff right now and our estimated yearly cost if we stay on it is £1533.62 per year.

If we move to the fixed tariff, our estimated yearly cost will be £3284.23 per year.

These figures are for electricity and it says it's based on a usage of 4928.7kWh of electricity per year.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks

Paul

What unit rates have been offered?

It is far more than 100% increase from the annual amount, so most likely it won't be a good deal.

Are you on E7? Than we also need day and night use.

Can you tell us the kWh and standing charge rates you are being offered?
Also are there any exit fees, and the name of the tariff, please?

What is the unit rate and standing charge?

Don't forget, the quote they give for staying on the variable is the current cap, so come October that will mean a yearly price of ~£2,850 and probably ~£3375 from Jan.

Your fix may be more expensive until Jan, but then the following 9 months or so could be cheaper.
  • Sorry - variable tariff:

    Standing charge:
    38.004p per day
    Day unit rate:
    32.13p per kWh
    Night unit rate:
    20.701p per kWh

    Fixed tariff:

    Standing charge:
    21.565p per day
    Day unit rate:
    79.077p per kWh
    Night unit rate:
    37.166p per kWh

Standing charge isn't too bad but yeouch! I hope you are not electric-only as that's really going to sting. Think I'd prefer a high standing charge and less per kWh.
