I recently broke up with my girlfirend, it would seem she was predominantly with me for financial reasons.
Since she's moved out my house, I can't find my passport. We'd been away recently and the passports were together, now my passport isn't in the "usual places".
I could of misplaced it... but I've exhausted the places it might be - and she definately would of taken hers.
It was issued circa 2015/2016 so is an ePassport (chipped), does a chipped passport have any value?
She's Latvian, so with Brexit and everything, I wondered if it could be doctored for someone else... I'm not 100% its been taken as I haven't literally turned the house upside down, but just find it troubling it doesn't appear to be anywhere it should be - since she left.
If I report to the passport office as lost... and get another issued - would that make the old one unusable through the chip?
Any advise appreciated.

With the chip, it is likely to be useless to reuse as a passport with a different photograph in it.I would report it lost and get it cancelled ASAP as it could be used for fraud purposes (depending on how diligent the lensing parties are).If she took it, it may be as much to peeve you off.May you find your sister soon Helli.

Good point... I'd not considered that.0 -
Have you asked your ex if she has it? Ours are kept in a wallet and it would be easy for one of us to pick up the wallet and wander off with both passports, rather than taking the one needed.

TBH I'm pretty cut up about the whole relationship, as it is apparent she was with me for money - so I feel like a mug.
Therefore I don't want any contact with her.
Considering TripleH's suggestion, maybe she took it in order to instigate conversation once she had left.Either way, I don't want contact with her.0 -
Surely if she has the passport, having it returned will save you both time and money. It may be a genuine error on her part. Have you someone who could ask, on your behalf?0

Personally I wouldn't initiate contact. I'd let the passport office know its lost and cancel it.
If I needed a new one I'd organise one.
I'd have no contact at all with the ex.
If they contact in future to say 'found your passport' I'd ignore, or say 'thanks, I've cancelled it, just dispose of it'.
Move on, don't use waste head space on if they did mean to peave you off or not. It's not worth it.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....5 -
If its definitely not in your possession go online and get it cancelled immediately. Even if by some chance she did have it and returned it - its been compromised and it should be cancelled. That's why if a passport is handed in to the Police or Passport office after being found it is not returned to you - it is destroyed.

Once it's cancelled, it will flag up as such if anyone tries to use it.1

the absolutely guaranteed way for you to find the passport in the house is to cancel it, they always turn up then - like bank cards5
