It's not my ability to get a credit card that concerns me - just the time it will take to process and to be able to use. Hence the original question.

  • To be honest, most card providers now, if approved, will get you the card and activation stuff in a few days

The FOS guy asked several colleagues who all agreed that it would be covered.....
So several people who've had the same basic training decided to follow the herd?

The FOS call centre isnt an advisory service outside of telling you how their complaints process works. They, like many call centres, however actually want to try and help so their answers come from a good but naive place. Having spent a decade in call centres and done work involving them since its mildly amusing how "urban myths" spread and get embedded... you hear one person giving a feasible but wrong explanation one week, the next week you hear 3 people say it, by the end of the month you hear it a dozen times a day.

My credit rating is excellent and I would (probably) have no problem getting a card - it just takes time, and I want to avoid delays.
The overall cost would be ~11k, which I will pay for outright on completion. There no grants currently for PV installation.
The FOS guy asked several colleagues who all agreed that it would be covered.....

It won't affect my decision to have them installed, it's just an added layer of comfort that I may have options if anything went wrong that would normally be covered under S.75.
Have you asked the company who are supplying the installation whether they will take payment by credit card for a transaction of around £11k? The card fees they would have to pay might mean that their policy is only to take payment by bank transfer or debit card, like a lot of car sales businesses do for transactions of similar amounts.

Deposit on CC, balance via bank transfer. Haven't spoken to them yet about methods of payment - wanted to get my ducks in a row before I went down that road.
