RAC Essentials

Has anyone heard of RAC Essentials?
I've just got some quotes from Compare the Market for breakdown insurance and 2 of them are from RAC Essentials. One is £30 with £40 excess the other is £90 with no excess.

Both include.
Unlimited call outs
Roadside assistance
Local recovery
Nationwide recovery
Onward travel
Home start
Relief driver
Emergency overnight accommodation
Car hire
Out of fuel

What's not included is
European cover
Misfuelling

I was quoted £198 on the RAC site for the same thing. Does anyone know what the differents with the normal RAC and RAC Essentials?

I took out the AA for a family of 4, same as cover above for £176 I think it was, after Quidco it was £84.
    £21 each.
Not on offer at the moment.

I've been on it for years. They called about why didn't I want to renew after year ones comical renewal, I was offered a one off admin fee/at cost cover (everything except home start).
    Never paid more than £70.
Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?

Why? So you can argue with them?

Had the same scenario so I contacted the RAC directly and asked them what the difference is between RAC and Essentials by RAC. They said:

If you buy Essentials from RAC (available through price comparison websites) you can choose to include a £40 excess. This means you will get a lower price for cover, but have to pay a £40 fee every time you break down.

Not had a breakdown in my new car since I got it in December 2016.
Took out AA cover as part of my 5 year service plan.
Found out in year 5 that they had not provided cover even though I had documentation of cover from them.
    When I got a puncture.
There was a switch from AA to RAC by Peugeot. My cover vanished.
Im part of the AA family cover, 4 members and get home start, relay, onward travel and National recovery.
Depending on the offer and cashback we pay around £20-£30 a year each.
    This year was £23.75.
Cough cough, do you live with you mum, dad and brother at the home address.
All 4 of you could get a great price.

My RAC cover runs out on 8/04/2024. I have never had an issue with them at all with previous cars. ( Have an 18 TROC now.  My quote was for 165.99 on renewal. Looking at comparison sites there is an "essentials RAC" which seems very cheap. Just over 50 pounds with 40 excess. Should i ring and bargain with them and ask for explanation on essentials package.  thanks in advance.

Essentials is just their product for selling on comparison sites which comes with a call out excess unlike the direct to consumer offering. They use the same policy book so there is no differences in cover other than for the excess

Take a look at Driver Guardian - full breakdown cover from £65 - used them for several years before getting AA by way of the cover that came when we changed our car last year.
