E.on- Crediting and re-billing estimated gas usage to their massive advantage.

Check your bills very carefully if you're billed or have been billed using estimated readings.
EON are not making enough money without scamming customers too.
As my smart meter has not worked for some period I have been billed by estimated readings. I have been checking and where these have been inaccurate I have contacted them and corrected......but this is not the scam.
On my latest bill they have credited the last 6-8 months bills and re-invoiced me, however whilst the total amount of gas used over the period has not changed they have changed all the estimated readings used on previous bills. They now claim I used virtually no gas in the winter/ spring before the last price rise, but lots of gas after during the summer heatwave!! This nets them an hike in my bill and money for nothing.
As yet it is unresolved as the girl on the phone just wanted a current meter reading (almost identical to the estimate) and refused to accept they have done anything wrong.
Most people will not spot this on their bills as the amount of gas they say you used does not change, (just how much they charge for it) so they get away with it in 99.9% of cases.

If you knew that you smart meter is not working did you take a meter read as advised on the 31/03/2022 and submitted it?
Without it will be hard to prove how much gas you used before and after the cap, but they need to apply logic to their estimates. It should be clear that you use more in winter than you do in spring/summer and the bill should reflect this.
Open a formal complaint and let have somebody with more knowledge and common sense look at it.0 -
I did read the meter, but as it agreed very closely with the estimated bill 2 days earlier I didn't bother contacting them...

How is this a scam? The way to avoid the situation that you are now in is to provide the supplier with actual meter readings if your smart meter is not connected to the DCC network.david_Glos said:I did read the meter, but as it agreed very closely with the estimated bill 2 days earlier I didn't bother contacting them...It is common practice to revise a bill when new evidence comes to light. Is it possible that your smart meter is now working? If so, the supplier can ‘pull’ up to 12 months of actual import data from the meter which could be used for re-billing.1 -
If you still have the reading give it to them & insist it’s used. What was the reading you took & what are they using now?0

Did you take a photo of the meter as advised?0
