Am I entitled to a refund

I ordered a dress online that was the right size in all areas but the manufacturers didn't think to consider that I would need to be able to take the dress off again. The stitching around the waist line fit perfectly around my waist but had no stretch so I couldn't take it off as it couldn't go over my hips or over my upper body. In order to be able to take it off my upper body and arms would have had to be smaller than my waist. My waist is not big. The zip at the back doesn't open all the way up the top part of the dress. I said up, not down. So even if the zip was open, I wouldn't  have been able to get out. and it wasn't my back that was too big anyway. I had to take a pair of scissors to it and cut myself out! I explained the situation to the company with a photo of the cut dress who have offered me a unique 10% discount code on a next purchase without even asking me if I wanted to shop there again! Am I entitled to a refund and how can I pursue getting one?

How did you get the dress on if it's too tight to fit over your shoulders or your hips?

I know sometimes things go on easily than the come off - sometimes one needs to call for assistance!!

How much did the dress cost and how did you pay for it?

On examination you found that the dress was not of satisfactory quality or fit for purpose - it was badly designed and poorly constructed in such a way that having managed to get it on there was no way you could get it off again.
You should return the dress (at their expense) if they ask you to. The evidence of unsuitable design and construction would be clear to see by the signs of the struggle you had to release yourself.

I'm not clear what they have offered you - if they offer a full refund (by law) and a 10% voucher off your next purchase to keep your custom, I would say that would be about right.

I've never had to put on or remove a dress, but I couldn't follow that either... (?)

Have a look at the info in the following link, from this very forum -

    https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/consumer-rights-refunds-exchange/#goods

under the heading - 'buying on the web, mail order or from home' and also under 'Know your sad f**t rights'.

The fact that you had to cut yourself out of a garment would indicate that it is definitely not 'fit for purpose'.

Unfortunately that has now damaged the dress but you could appeal to the retailer - whose responsibility it is - for a refund as it was impossible for you to get out of the dress without doing that.

The item was faulty and because you bought it online, you have the right to a full refund, although as it says in the MSE article, you may have to pay return postage.

*Sorry, don't know why that heading above came out all bold and shouty!

I'd disagree and say the item was fit for purpose. It was put on and used as a dress.
Without wishing to sound rude, but maybe the dress was the wrong size for you OP?

I don't think it's as clear cut to say it's faulty. The OP managed to get it on and wear it.

If it went on it should have come off the same way.

Did you have trouble getting it on???

I have a silk dress that is difficult to get off but also difficult to wriggle into! If somewhat inebriated then I needed help!

I'm struggling to picture how you can put a dress off but have to resort to cutting it off.

Sounds to me like it was too small rather than not fit for purpose.

Can you take it to a seamstress to fix and improve the fit?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
