Expat Return to UK - What to do for Energy Provider

Hi All
My family and I are moving back into our family home, having been in Canada for the last 4 years (work assignment). It’s fair to say the UK has changed a little bit since we left, your advice on the best way to get an energy provider would be greatly appreciated? I have been to U Switch but that was a bust and have also found out the existing provider (Eon) and contacted them (no reply yet) to see if I can continue on our tenants tariff (about GBP4k pa).
Thank you in advance for your feedback.
Regards
G

Once you move back in you'll need to contact Eon and get yourself signed up to them. You'll be on the deemed (SVT capped) tariff. Make sure you take meter reads so make sure your tenants have been honest with their bills.
Once you've signed up you can look at switching/fixing. Depending on when you move in there may not be much point in doing either of these!1 -
You will have to take on a contract with the current supplier of the property in your own name first.
It is highly unlikely you will be able to take over another person's contract and tariff.

You are on a deemed tariff with the current provider (EON) when you move in.
Take a meter reading (and photos of the meters) when you move in, and call EON and open the account with them. You are already on the deemed tariff with is the same as the SVT, so don't let them force you to go for a fixed tariff (but write down the details and compare with the upcoming October cap.
You will not be able to continue on your tenants tariff, either they are on SVT, than it is the same tariff anyway, or they have a fixed tariff, which you cannot go onto.
If it is currently £4000 be prepared for it to more than double by Janaury.1 -

When it comes to switching, is it simply a case of phoning up alternate providers and getting their prices?0

Normally yes but very little available in terms of switches at the moment. You can ring around but not many are on comparison sites in the way they used to be.garethkhill said:When it comes to switching, is it simply a case of phoning up alternate providers and getting their prices?Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Which one are you selling and how much?garethkhill said:Thank you both, thats quite a jump eh! Will have to sell one of my kidneys! Thanks again
Just trying to get a handle on current prices before offering mine, as it's probably better to get in quick as I'm sure there is going to be an over supply in the next few months.

You've only been away 4 years? Normally, switching is done online via a comp site, so you can get some cashback, but that market is now effectively dead, as there are no competitive fixes below the price cap. Hardly any suppliers want to take on new customers at present, as they just lose them money. The only two that may are EDF and Octopus, but don't hold your breath.garethkhill said:When it comes to switching, is it simply a case of phoning up alternate providers and getting their prices?
Just go on SVT under the price cap with the deemed supplier. And maybe try and get your kWh usage down, as £4k at present (before the price cap increase) is very expensive.
All the tariff info is available online, no need to phone anyone for that.
If I were you I would remain in Canada until winter ends, it'll be much cheaper! No free lunch, and no free laptop
