We have just bought a netgear wireless G router. Now we were told to plug in and go. We are plugged in but not going, well I am on the desk top as this is not wireless. Husband has wireless laptop HP TX1340EA and nothing is happening. It has a USB thingy with it we have tried using that but nothing is happening yet. Any advice before we go:eek:

ADSL on a BT line or Virgin cable?
Which Netgear wireless G router? i.e. model number, have you bought the correct type?
What have you plugged in and where? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
its virgin. The router is WGR614 there is a cable going from that to the modem, the laptop is wifi but we have tried it with the usb and still nothing. The only other connection is the mains.0

Normally you would connect the router to your PC using an Ethernet cable and log in by typing http://www.routerlogin.net into your browser to configure it. Is the Wireless LED illuminated? (third from the left) If it is not, you won't be able to connect using the wireless enabled laptop. If the laptop has 802.11b/g you will not need the USB adaptor. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

From your Virgin entry point, there should be a cable that connects to your Virgin modem.
Your Virgin modem should then connect to your router.
Your router can connect to your desktop pc but it isn't essential unless you want the desktop pc to have internet access.

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -
Thanks for your help having no sucess, have asked a friends husband who works with this sort of stuff to come and help us out he does this for a living, bibed by a bottle of wine. The virgin modem box we have is 7 yrs old quite big my friend has a very little box don't know if that is relevant. I have no idea about computers and my husband obviously has not much idea either! Decided to phone a man who knows rather arguing what we should do:eek: . Pen and paper and snail mail is much more reliable. Unfortunately our son needs to be able to have access to the internet and email for school, as he can now email his homework to school, which is his incentive to do it. No longer can we manage with one computer with internet access as my daughter and husband also need to use it!!! How times have changed:rolleyes: .0

Two hours! should take about two minutes, including encrypting your wireless. You have encrypted your wireless network haven't you?
