Connect a phone to a 4G router

Options
Apparently I can connect a DECT phone to my Huawei b525 router, I want to use the minutes that go with the SIM card so not VoIP. I don't have a suitable phone so need to get one and it has to have an RJ11 jack and ideally no answerphone (if it has one you have to disable it or the phone won't ring).

I want to be able to plug it in and it will work! I know I have to have the settings set to "Auto".

Can anyone suggest a suitable phone?

Many thanks

I think you've got your terms mixed up.

A DECT phone and a VOIP phone (the latter is what connects to your router) are not the same thing.  A DECT phone is your standard cordless phone that connects to the wall and the phone line directly (or into a filter).
An RJ11 cable isn't going to help you, because that is what is used between the router and the phone line itself.  What you probably want is an RJ45, or a network cable.

And yet, the quick start guide says:
You can connect a computer, or landline phone to the router to access the Internet, make telephone calls, and more.
for which the unit has a landline phone port:

A respondent on the Amazon Q&A for this device claims that they "also connect a landline to the phone socket and can make and receive regular phone calls, as if I was using the SIM in a mobile phone."

AFAIK, DECT phone is just a cordless phone with a base connected to a phone socket with RJ11 cable - like any other landline phone. My understanding is that any phone is 'suitable' - DECT or not.

Thanks everyone I am going to try a basic landline phone for less than £10 and I will let you know if it works - I watched a Youtube video and someone in Africa does it very successfully.

Well I can't make it work. Something is happening because when I call out I get an engaged tone even when the phone is not busy and if I call the number from another phone it goes to Voicemail. Any suggestions?

    You could try:
    • Checking the router configuration settings to see whether voice calling is a feature that needs to be enabled.
    • Putting the SIM in a mobile phone to check that it definitely works for making/receiving voice calls.

I was looking at that Amazon Q & A thread and found one that said you have to make a call using a mobile phone with the SIM card first to get it registered on the network. I will let you know.
