new ASUS windows 11 laptop issues

I've just bought a new ASUS laptop - VivoBook 17 X712, i3 processor- prior to delivery its been factory upgraded to Windows 11
Couple of issues
1. The ASUS auto update caused an ASUS app to hang on startup (ASUS Splendid) so I had to do a System Restore and turn off their auto update - hardly ideal at this stage. Others online have found the issue unresolvable and ASUS seem unwilling to help.....

2. I have two older NAS servers WD MyCloudMirror and WD WhiteBook which cannot be discovered for file access on the new ASUS - both of these can be easily accessed from another laptop in the house that has been upgraded to Windows 11 from 10, so I know its possible.
- online advice is to put the drive details into Windows Credentials - I've tried copying these across from the working Windows 11 laptop but still the WD drives cannot be seen

    2. Have you enabled file sharing/network discovery on the new w11 system?

    1) Update is probably available from the website, something showing from 2022:

    2) Probably use SMB 1:

Which is no longer a default option in 11.

    This video:

suggests it may still be available but it will be dropped eventually.  When that day comes (probably as early as later this year) then your NAS servers will need upgrading.

thanks for the help - I forgot to say I had Enabled Network Discovery.

I have checked if SMB was enabled under additional features and it already was so this alone isn't the cause of the drives not showing up

    I'm still baffled.

    kind regards

Thanks for all the help. As far as the My World Book Mirror is concerned this has become accessible now on my new laptop by upgrading the firmware on this NAS box to the most recent version. The older White Book is still not acceptable which it is on another, windows upgraded, laptop that has windows 11 so this remains a mystery at least.
    kind regards

That suggests the Mirror was running on SMB1 and the firmware upgrade pushes it to SMB 2, which 10/11 can use out of the box.

The White book is probably still on SMB1 - IIRC you keep the SMB1 functionality if you upgrade from 10 but not if you clean install 11.

I was going to post yesterday along similar lines (but without knowing the specifics) re. W10>W11 retaining some functionality that a clean W11 install may not have. e.g. W7 photo viewer being natively available in W10 after a migration from W7, but not in a clean W10 install. (I know there's a registry edit that makes it available in clean W10/W11 installs, but the analogy holds).

Presumably this means they clean-installed W11 rather than migrated from a W10 install?
