Changing Sim - Worried About Losing Messages

Hello

I have got a new sim card.   I have loads of messages which I need to keep hold of.   How do I know if my messages are saved to the sim or the phone?

If they are stored on the sim, how would I get them moved to the phone storage?

Many thanks.

As far as I know, very little is saved to the SIM these days, certainly not messages. It was possible to save contacts many years ago but that seems not to be the case now.

You don't say what type of phone it is (Android or iPhone), but a SIM change is trivial.

If its an Android phone they're not saved on the SIM.  they're on your phone.
You can get apps off the Play Store to back them up to Google Drive

Its very rare messages/contacts are stored on the Sim these days - it was done back in the day because then it was a limitation of phone storage, but in the days of gigabytes of space, not an issue now.

You can still put contacts on the SIM or phone (with Android anyway). You can sometimes tell if the name entry is fairly
long but it only shows a shortened version then its likely to be on the SIM.

I get the family asking why they cannot find their contacts, they randomly save them to the SIM or Phone and forget.
Select show SIM and phone contacts and there are many duplicates.

What types of messages are your referring to, Whatsapp, SMS texts?

Whatsapp messages are backed up, and restored (assuming you have the backup set), and as far as SMS text messages are concerned there's a good app call SMS Backup & Restore that'll allow you to move the move them over. But as mentioned, it's rare that any messages are stored on the SIM card anyway.
  • My latest phone (Realme 8 5G) came with an app named CLONE PHONE which successfully transferred all my old SMS messages and a lot of other stuff.

I have used SMS Back Up and Restore successfully on several occasions - backs up all SMS and Call logs
