Just had my renewal quote for my dog who’s 9, Tesco has gone up from £330 to £550😲, had to actually call them to see if this was a mistake, but it was correct. So did a quote online as a new customer and got it for £223!! Bargain. So called Tesco again to ask if they would renew at this price, but was told no. Not sure how they can justify this🙄

Do you have any previous claims?  These bump up the price and will be excluded if you take out a new policy with Tesco or anybody else.

Is the cover level exactly the same?

New customers get reduced rates to entice them in and then the premium escalates the following year.

When I informed Tesco that my dogs weight had meant he was classed as a medium dog now (Literally had gone up 0.5kg) they tried putting my premium from £16 to £24 a month. A new quote on their website was £18 so cancelled and took out new cover!

Common practice unfortunately, especially as they get older. If no existing conditions then it's a no-brainer to move to another insurer.

Despite no claims a dogs age raises premium and also increases the amount you pay yourself for any claims.

Glad you found a new insurer - lucky to get cover for an older dog even without pre existing conditions.

Amazed when I made a claim that the 2 previous vets I used were contacted to see if I had not declared previous illnesses.
