Laying cable under house, can it rest on the dirt?

What 'special conditions' can be better than laying on the top of some 'dirt' under the floor? I assume it's dry 'dirt', but even if it's wet, this can't be worse than wet soil.Section62 said:Bendy_House said:The SWA will obviously be fine - it's deigned to be buried, after all....It is designed to allow it to be buried in specified conditions... not laid on the top of 'dirt' under a floor. It isn't obviously fine. Hence my question earlier in the thread.'Specified', not 'special'. Cable manufacturers limit their liability by specifying the conditions under which their cables are to be used, rather than a free-for-all "do what you want with it" approach. For example, that the ground is free from certain contaminants, or free from sharp objects. The 'dirt' under the suspended floor of the average property is likely to have a whole range of building waste, rather than being clean soil. Some types of building material (and waste) is known to have a damaging effect on PVC.Therefore it can't be assumed that laying a cable on 'dirt' under the floor is safe, without knowing what that 'dirt' actually contains. The safer approach is to clip the cable so it isn't in contact with unknown/variable materials.0 -

It's fine. How do you know that for sure without looking under Wkmg's floor?0 -
Section62 said:How do you know that for sure without looking under Wkmg's floor?Oh, I'm pretty sure. Sure enough. No triple-lock required.
The OP doesn't have access to use cleats, apparently, or else they'd no doubt be 'happy' to do so. Which I agree would be the best call. But it's awkward in this case.0
