MovingForwards said:On the subject of food and cooking, my OH did most of it and a while back just stopped cooking us meat based foods, at that point I said when he reverts to eating meat I won't be; I was a veggie when we first got together.
It's rare I'll buy plant based mince, sausage etc due to cost.
I put an order in for a delivery of goodies, then found a localish grain shop where I can buy as much or as little of something as I want, taking my own tubs to fill. Those meals take planning as I have to soak beans etc.
For quick meals I've got tins of various beans, lentils, chickpeas and tomatoes etc with herbs and spices and all it takes is cracking open a few tins, draining, throwing in a saucepan with whatever spices, getting rice or pasta on the go at the same time and 20 minutes later I'm eating.
There's plenty of good veggie and vegan cookbooks on eBay, I've the student vegetarian nosh book and a few Asian ones, I adapt to my taste.
I'm not anti veggie, pro meat, I'm simply just pro-food-that-tastes-nice. I don't care if it has meat in it or not. So long as it's healthy and not rammed with a million calories (yeah I know I know - takeaways, but I'm talking meal after meal here) and is filling then I don't particularly care whether it has meat in it or not.
Lately she's tried some replacement mince, replacement sausages, some pasta pocket things filled with something - so I just try a bit of it. If I like it then it's a go, if not then at least we know.
Last night was lasagne but with fake mince & she threw some kind of beans or whatever they were in there too. Probably not beans to be fair but it was lumps of something. I'm really doing it no favours but it tasted fine enough to me. It's just easier if we can have the same meal.
When I've done stir fry, I have to cook her tofu on the side which is faffy, so I tried some & through trial-&-error I've found I don't mind tofu & it has to be the extra firm. It's not cheap & I don't think it's as nice as chicken but I'm all for an easier life so I'd happily have tofu instead of chicken in a stir fry for easiness.
On the topic of cooking, is there a specific forum on this board to discuss this to get ideas & such rather than in a banking forum?1 -
