Changing estimate on final reading

Just got another final bill from my electricity provider after they've decided to revise their closing estimate they were happy to use in the first place. They never came to read the meter or request the value when it happened this was when I was switched from SSE to OVO (not at my request).
It's 8 months later can they do this?
As both SSE and OVO Energy are part of the OVO group they already have the money, they seem to be doing it as a way to bolster their cash supply.

So they estimated their reading and 8 months later they re-estimated the bill?
If they believe the estimated reading was inaccurate then there's nothing stopping them from altering it within a suitable time frame. Do you have proof of the actual value? Is the value they've supplied wildly inaccurate?

    Welcome to the forum.
Both suppliers have to use the same reading, one for closing your old account and one for opening your new one.
Do the readings now match, or are they different?
Paying for more energy at the old rate, and less at the new one, could potentially work in your favour.

Have you now submitted meter readings?

I won’t comment on your specific point but the Licence Condition relating to Final Bills has been written by a five year old! The supplier has 6 weeks to raise a Final Bill or it faces a penalty; it then has an obligation to issue a revised bill if new information comes to light. Revised Bills are not as far as I can tell subject to the Back Billing Regulations (in truth, that would be difficult): in theory, the supplier could keep issuing revised bills for up to 6 years (Statue of Limitations)
