Refused service at filling station

It sounds as thpough you need to contact them with your paperwork, show them that you bought after the offence took place and ask them to remove your detaisl from the blacklist.
You may nneed to write to their head office , I suspect that the employees in the petrol station won't have the authority to change anything.
However, as above, they are entitled to refuse service and unless their reason was due to a protected characteristic then they are fully entiled to do so.
I don't think that there is a data protection issue - they don't have any personal data about you, it is your car's registration which they've blacklisted.
I'd also question whether there is a safety issue. It's generaly sensible not to let your tank run practically dry (what if the pumps had been ou of order or closed for safety reasons) and had you been so low that you couldn't gt home without running out then you could have taken steps to address that - e.g. explaining the situation and offering to pre-pay, or moving your car to the supermarket car park, buying a pertrol can and filling that! All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
Why didn't the garage just ask you to pay in advance? Fuel retailers could avoid all the problems of drive offs if they followed the US system of paying before you can pump the fuel.0

No thanks.
I don't know how much fuel I will be putting in. I do not buy a set amount. I top up the tank until full.0 -
Paying by credit card or debit card resolves the problem of not knowing how much. I would also fill my tank until full. It might aggravate the few who prefer cash but, as said above, would largely remove the problem of stolen fuel for which we all pay our little bit.0

It's a bit clunky with cash, as you'd go to the counter and ask for, say, £20 worth and hand it over. The pump either stops at £20 or you go back in to get your change.
Whereas with card you can skip the latter stage as it just holds the £20 temporarily and then bills you the actual amount.
But then, if the petrol station isn't set up to take pre-payments, then offering to do it that way would be futile anyway.

Strange that the OP bought the car nine years ago, has been using this filling station regularly for all that time (and five years before), and only now they've decided to black-list the registration.5

If a quick chat about using the filling station for the past 14 years without incident didn't sort it and there were other options locally then I would go elsewhere and never go back. If a real problem a cheap private plate may sort the issue.1

But, people don't like the fact that they put £100 on hold until they know how much you've bought.
If they don't have that option then you would have to hand over your card, go back to fill up, and come back in. No way I am handing over my card and walking out.
