ebay login - texts with security code don't come to phone

Has anyone had, and resolved, this ebay login issue?
For several weeks, I haven't been able to login to my ebay account as the authentication code sent to my mobile phone never comes through.
My mobile phone number hasn't changed.
My password and user name are unchanged, and are not the problem.
I haven't changed anything on my account.
I've tried to login from Firefox, Safari [ebay's rec. browsers for Mac], as well as Chrome.
The problem arises at login when I request the text to my mobile phone and it never comes through.
Ebay have been worse than useless. It takes many abortive calls to get past ebay robots without the algorithms repeating the rubbish on the ebay Help pages, before cutting the call.
I spent a couple of hours a fortnight ago wrestling with ebay's AI - the human i eventually spoke with told me ebay Tech would resolve this 'known issue' in 24h, but 'allow 72h'.
Nothing happened - no resolution.
Today, the ebay human I got through to on the fourth call gave the same guff, without giving any timeframe for fixing this.
I don't want to set up another ebay account, as I have 100% feedback over 15 years.
Any ideas?

Was the phone number ever verified? If not then could it have been entered incorrectly?Ebay never shows you the exact number the texts are going to for confirmation codes as it leaves some digits obscured. I would contact ebay customer services and check the number is correct. If it isn't that then the customer service agent should give you some other option like verifying by email.2

I cannot login. Neither ebay human could make verification by email happen, though they both chirped cheerfully on about it before admitting it wouldn't work - without my being logged in.0

are you using the original sms text application or have you changed to eg google messages
shouldn't make a difference, but ...1 -

shouldn't make a difference, but ...Hmm ... haven't knowingly changed anything on SMS. Ios was updated recently, but it is everytime an iphone update's issued. i don't use google messages, or imessage. But I wonder if there's something in this - ebay say some others users are experiencing the same. It can't be many though, as there'd be a lot of noise on social media0 -
Just to add - I get authentication codes via text on loads of other apps and services, this is only happening on ebay

so here's an update for anyone else having this ebay problem:1. I spoke for the third time to an ebay person - the quickest way to get past the robots is say 'my account has been hacked' and a human picks up.2. the issue of verification codes not reaching users started on 29 July.3. this is affecting a number of users.4. the leading 'zero' of the the mobile number of some users has been dropped by ebay and for tech reasons ebay either don't know about or won't say5. ebay won't allow affected users to opt for verification by email while ebay finds the time to pop the leading zero back on mobile numbers ebay messed up.6. ebay say they'll sort all this out by 'September' [although they didn't say which year].7. all the above from ebay may or may not be true of course.5

i've just had this problem myself. i've just done a clean install of windows on my laptop and then tried order from ebay which required my login. i tried to have a text sent to my phone 7 times and all failed to come through.
i checked my phone connection and my phone was on the same home wifi network as my laptop. i turned off the wifi on my phone and connected to my mobile network and requested a text code again from ebay and it came straight through.
i wonder if it is a security issue in that if your phone and laptop/pc are on the same wifi network someone could've stolen your laptop and be trying to access account so ebay makes sure your phone is on a mobile network as the chances of a thief having your phone as well could be pretty slim.
so for anyone else having this problem make sure your phone is on your mobile network and not on the same wifi connection as your pc/laptop0
